Did you know that you can get scuba-certified on a cruise ship?!
I just returned from a scuba diving trip in Florida myself, so I wanted to feature Royal Caribbean's scuba diving program!
Royal Caribbean is the ONLY cruise line in the world to partner with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors® (PADI) to offer a full Open Water Diving course for guests on board.
There are three phases to an open water certification:
Knowledge Development- For your certification, you complete the "bookwork" part of your course prior to your cruise. This includes working through the PADI Open Water Diver Manual, answering questions at the end of each chapter, and completing a final exam at the end of your course. (The PADI Open Water Diver Course must be booked IN ADVANCE of your cruise to allow time for your knowledge development.)
Confined Water Dives- This phase involves developing basic scuba skills in the pool once onboard the ship. These are essential to becoming familiar with your gear and getting used to breathing underwater.
Open Water Dives- This is the coolest part! You must go on four open water dives to complete your open water course.
Two of Royal Caribbean's ships currently offer the opportunity to get scuba-certified:
🎵 Harmony of the Seas
🎻 Symphony of the Seas
For experienced divers who are already certified, Royal Caribbean offers diving excursions at the some of the best diving spots in the world, including the following ports:
Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas
Cozumel, Mexico
George Town, Grand Cayman
Roatan, Honduras
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas
Oranjestad, Aruba
Willemstad, Curacao
I received my Open Water Certification in 2024 and diving has been such a wonderful experience so far! Whether you love marine life, shipwrecks, fishing, or just exploring the depths, scuba diving has so much to offer.
